Sure, you could celebrate Independence Day by flocking with the masses downtown to stare up collectively while fireworks debris rains around you. But! You also have the option to do something a little more unique and just as flashy if instead you head the other way down Orange Avenue with Austin's Coffee as your destination for the annual I-4 Fest. The eclectic coffee shop will host an indoor and outdoor stage to feature 26 bands alongside a full-blown art fair with handmade items from local creators for just $5. How could you get any more in the spirit of the holiday than by rallying behind independent artists?
Speaking of being downright American, local country rockers Roadkill Ghost Choir, who have been hitting major national stages including the Governor's Ball and who recently had their video for "Beggars' Guild" premier on Relix, will perform an acoustic set at 8:45 p.m. Check out the video for a preview if you're unfamiliar with the DeLand treasure:
There are also rowdy local bands like Tam Tam & the Magical Sugar Cookies, Moonmen from Mars and Zap Dragon and the Attack, whose new album Pain Waves dropped earlier this year and channels the goodness of early Against Me! Listen here:
Additional perks, there's free beer when party-starters Room Full of Strangers hits the outdoor stage at 7:45, vegan and non-vegan treats all day, and if you show up by 2:15, you'll be in time for the Athens/Tallahassee band the Fuzzlers' stuffed animal fight:
If you like American music as much as I do, I'll see ya there. (Disclaimer, the Violent Femmes are not playing I-4 Fest) Full lineup below:
