As I reported in a June installment of Live Active Cultures, Universal Orlando has been furiously working all season to finish their new Simpsons-themed expansion at Universal Studios Florida. While the "Fast Food Boulevard" section (featuring the infamous "Krustyburger") has been open for several weeks, construction on the "Duff Gardens" waterfront and Kang & Kodos' Twirl 'n' Hurl spinner ride has continued.
While Universal hasn't officially announced an opening date for the completed area, we have word from employees that the rest of Springfield should start welcoming guests as soon as tomorrow (Friday 8/2) or Saturday. The exact opening is subject change, pending any last-minute finishing touches, but this weekend should be a great time for Simpsons die-hards to swing by for a first look at Lard Lad, Jebadiah Sprigfield, the Seven Little Duffs, and the rest of Duff Gardens.
In the meantime, here's a fresh look at the Kang & Kodos attraction undergoing testing, with the newly-installed interactive tentacles now arrayed around the ride.
