Cigar City Brewing may leave state if growler law passes

  • via

In an interview earlier this week, the owner of Cigar City Brewing, Joey Redner, said that if the proposed growler bill passes, he may pack up and move his brewery to another state.

"If I went out of state, I could build a brewery and still have close proximity to my markets, but I would have a revenue stream that makes me more competitive," he said Thursday. "I would be stupid not to consider it."

As we reported earlier this week, Redner estimates the passage of the bill would put a yearly dent in his business to the tune of $175,000, which he'd have to pay to distributors.

And based on Cigar City Brewing's full event calendar, Tampa'd lose more than just jobs and a strong business if the brewery were to relocate to another state. They'd lose an entire social scene.

Friday, April 25, on MSNBC's The Ed Show, you can catch Joey Redner speaking about the proposed bill and how it could effect Florida craft brewers. The show starts at 5 p.m. and his segment is expected to air at about 5:45 p.m.
