Universal announced today that it will be raising its starting pay to $9 an hour, up from the previous rate of $8 an hour. While the increase isn't as large the increase Disney announced earlier this year, it will be happening a lot sooner. Disney's new minimum wage of $10 an hour won't go into effect until 2016. Universal's new rate of pay will start June 1, 2014. Yep, that's right, less than a month from when they made the announcement.
In addition to the increase in team member's rate of pay, Universal is plans to hire 3500 new employees in 2014. These new team members will fill various positions throughout the park, including the Wizarding World of Harry Potter's Diagon Alley expansion, the new Cabana Bay Resort and all the updates to City Walk.
