Mr. Gold, aka Jose Melendez, spins signs in his signature gold suit, hat and mask for Diamond Exchange, a business on the corner of Maguire Boulevard and East Colonial Drive. He caught our attention in 2012 when we were planning our annual Best of Orlando issue. His infectious good nature and uplifting story (Melendez is a former felon who spent 11 years in jail before cleaning up and getting his life together) inspired us to make him our cover model for that issue. He has also inspired local photographer Ben Carlson, who recently posted really nicely done short documentary about Mr. Gold to Vimeo.
