Art Capsules Book Launch Party

Egberto Almenas has assembled a loving look at modern art as it pertains to Florida – short monographs on several artists working today in Central Florida, as well as artists whose work is informed in some way by Florida – in Art Capsules. The result is an engaging volume in which local favorites Dina Mack, Brigan Gresh, Doug Rhodehamel, Nathan Selikoff, Kyle and many more rub shoulders with Salvador Dalí, Maxfield Parrish, Leonora Carrington, Edward Gorey and other deceased greats. We can’t promise that the latter list of artists will be at the opening, but it’s fair to hope that many of the former will. It’s a must-read for anyone interested in Orlando’s cultural past and present, and it’s even available as an e-book for all you starving artists. (Hint: The holidays are coming right up.)

4-6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2 | The Gallery at Avalon Island, 39 S. Magnolia Ave. | | free
