My Life, an online identity manager, released a list of the best Halloween cities in the United States. And it's no big surprise that Orlando handily made it into the top 10. Universal Orlando's Halloween Horror Nights is one of the top Halloween events in the country. In fact, that's the main selling point My Life uses to describe the City Beautiful's Halloween scene: "Scary movies come to life during Hollywood Horror Nights at Universal Studios."
Here's the thing, though. HHN is so much more than movies come to life. In fact, some of our favorite haunted houses at this year's fright fest were the ones NOT based on previously existing properties (Dollhouse of the Damned and Giggles & Gore, Inc). Not to mention the other killer haunted attractions in the Orlando area: A Shallow Grave, Outbreak on the Farm, Legends a Haunting at Oldtown and the like. Regardless, we thank Universal for helping Orlando become the No. 4 best city for Halloween in America.
Landing at No. 1 on the list is Las Vegas, Nevada, where, in some places it's Halloween all year 'round. Both Miami (No. 6) and Tampa (No. 5) made the list for Florida, as well. We're thinking Tampa's got Busch Gardens' Howl-o-Scream to thank for that.
To determine this ranking, My Life took into consideration the number of costume stores per capita, the percentage of vacant homes (cause they are creepy), percentage of residents under the age of 14 and the number of "excited Halloween" tweets. So, not the most scientific of methods, but we'll take it!
