Following last week's successful event
protesting the failures of several grand juries across the country to indict police officers for abusing their powers, especially in cases of violent actions against people of color who were, by most accounts, complying or even holding their hands up, tonight protesters will convene again with the same message. That message is now a little louder, however, now that Orange County Sgt. Robert McCarthy is under similar fire for shooting 28-year-old Cedric Bartee three times during an arrest. Witnesses, according to the Orlando Sentinel,
claim that Bartee, too, had his hands up. Organizers tell us that there is no intention of participants getting arrested at tonight's event outside the federal courthouse downtown. But we suppose that's up to the police.
