Today is Free Cone Day at Häagen-Dazs shops: Plan accordingly

May 12 is an important date. On this date, one of the most brutal battles of the Civil War transpired in Virginia (the Bloody Angle, 1864); the body of the Lindbergh baby was found (1932); the American freighter Mayaguez was captured by Communist forces in Cambodia (1975); and Judge Harry A. Blackmun, author of the Roe v. Wade decision, was confirmed to the Supreme Court (1970).

But May 12, 2015, blows all that other nonsense away because TODAY IS FREE CONE DAY at Häagen-Dazs scoop shops. (Look, it's just taking us a minute to get used to summer coming on so suddenly, that 93-degree day on Sunday nearly killed us, and a nice cold scoop of strawberry sorbet just sounds really good, so ... no offense if you're a Lindbergh or a Confederate.)

Anyway, as we said: Free Cone Day. Drag your sweaty Orlando summer body to one of the shops below and belly up to the counter any time between 4 and 8 p.m. today. They will set you up with a free scoop of sweet, sweet frozen cow juice – and if you luck into one of the participating stores, you can try one of their new Artisan Collection flavors: Chocolate Caramelized Oat and Banana Rum Jam.
