The film series that revels in the awkwardness of combining delicious breakfast with disturbing art films has put us in some flustering situations since it launched in January – for instance, trying to eat Easter brunch while watching the sodomy-and-excrement festival that is Pier Paolo Pasolini’s Salo, or the 120 Days of Sodom. But as Uncomfortable Brunches go, Shame is pretty tame. Steve McQueen directs Michael Fassbender as a sex addict and Carey Mulligan as his screwed-up sister; there are plenty of sexy-sex-sex scenes, but the way this sociopath talks to his sister is actually more squirm-inducing than seeing the full-frontal Fasspeener. As per usual, Southern Fried Sunday provides the grub (sausages, we hope), and as per usual, you can blame your blushes on the happy hour-priced mimosas and bloody marys.
