After White House officials proposed a series of cuts to Puerto Rico’s underfunded health care system, Puerto Ricans living on the island and here were, needless to say, not happy.

In response, the Association of Puerto Ricans Living in Florida (Asociación de Puertorriqueños Viviendo en Florida) along with other organizations are having a town hall meeting about the issue tomorrow, July 9 at 7 p.m. at 1865 N. Econlockhatchee Trail, said Betsy Franceschini, regional office director for the Puerto Rico Federal Affairs Administration.

“The formula proposed would cut 11 percent of Medicaid for us,” she says. “Puerto Rican citizens contribute the same amount that U.S. citizens contribute here, yet we receive less benefits.”
