A new bill hopes to finally legalize "shacking up" in the state of Florida, which is great news considering right now over 400,000 of you are breaking the law.

Wednesday, Sept. 16, the House Criminal Justice Subcommittee approved a bill from Democratic Rep. Michelle Rehwinkel Vasilinda of Tallahassee, that would repeal a law against cohabitation dating back to 1868, reports the Star Tribune.

The nearly 150-year-old law states that an unmarried man and woman living under the same roof is a sin and punishable with a $500 fine and up to 60 days in jail.

It's a good thing no one actually enforces this law, since 438,000 Floridians are disregarding it daily, according to the 2014 census.

Florida isn't the only state that still has this draconian rule on the books, Michigan and Mississippi also ban cohabitation.

According to the Star Tribune, Vasilinda argued that Florida's statute doesn't apply to same-sex couples, which is why she believes this law is unjust and discriminatory.
