The Orlando Magic pledged to donate $1.5 million toward the University of Central Florida's downtown campus, the Creative Village project, according to a UCF news release

UCF is trying to raise $20 million in private donations along with $20 million from its own funds before asking the state for another $20 million. Orange County Commissioners pledged their support and $3 million to the project last month, and Valencia College's Board of Trustees plans to contribute $2 million toward part of the project. UCF suffered a setback earlier this summer after Gov. Rick Scott vetoed the project.

“A strong, vibrant, dynamic downtown is paramount to the continued growth of our community,” says Orlando Magic CEO Alex Martins in a news release. “UCF’s downtown campus will be a catalyst for that continued development, bringing several thousand students downtown, while serving as a center for job creation.
