3 local spots to celebrate National Cheese Lovers' Day

  • Rob Bartlett
National Cheese Lovers' Day is today (yes, that's a thing) and there are at least three spots around town where you can enjoy your perfectly melty, creamy comestibles however you like them. Here are our picks:

Toasted (two locations, Winter Park and Lake Nona)
For those who love the salty-sweet thing, the two must-picks at Toasted are the Blackberry Melt (blackberries, bacon, fontina and arugula) and the Fig & Goat (havarti, goat cheese, figs, honey and basil).

Tom & Chee (Lake Buena Vista)
There are more creative combos at this first Orlando outpost of the East Coast grilled-cheese-tomato-soup chain. We love the Flying Pig, with smoked turkey, bacon crumbles, pickles and smoked gouda on sourdough, and the Italian, which flaunts salt and vinegar potato chips, pepperoni, ham and mozzarella between two slices of ciabatta.

33 & Melt (Windermere)
The new grilled-cheese bar is fully outfitted with craft beer too (the only place that serves alcohol out of these three), so you'll have plenty of suds to go with your Swiss. The Reserve, a brie and cranberry melt, is a classic, but the Porkster — combining pulled pork, pickles, muenster and cheddar — is the real standout.
