Future plans to travel on S. Orlando Avenue (or US Highway 17-92) may need to be put on hold as southbound lanes are set to close in the near future.
"We're rehabilitating that section of road in that area, which includes removing the existing concrete slabs, replacing the earth work down there and repaving the roadway with asphalt," said Jessica Keane, public information officer for the Florida Department of Transportation.
FDOT initially announced the closure of southbound lanes from Lee Road to Lake Avenue for Thursday, Jan. 21, but the date has been postponed due to a forecast of rain.
"The weather does not permit us to take care of the work in the area," said Keane. "We're working with the locals to coordinate a time that will work best for everyone."
According to FDOT, contractors will spend a three-day weekend and a subsequent two-day weekend to work in all southbound lanes. Through traffic will not be permitted in this area, but access to local businesses will be maintained.
Detour route signage will be placed along southbound US 17-92, and detour routes will be announced when a firm closure schedule is released.
