The fantasy sports website FanDuel recently announced plans to lay off 55 employees from their Maitland, Florida, offices.

“In 2015, we saw continued growth with more than six million users registering for FanDuel and our largest NFL season to date, despite regulatory pressure,” said a spokesperson in a prepared statement. “As we plan for the future, we are building out our customer service operations in Florida and will continue to hire for select roles throughout the company. We are helping the individuals in these roles find employment elsewhere and are grateful for the work they did at FanDuel.”

As reported by the Orlando Business Journal, the New York-based company filed a Workers Adjustment & Retraining Notification on Feb. 10, with the actual layoffs taking effect April 10.

FanDuel says they will keep 19 employees here in Central Florida, according to Forbes

Both FanDuel and DraftKings (another fantasy sports betting site that allows you to spend as much money as you want online) have been under intense legal pressure in states like Florida, where new legislative efforts are claiming the two fantasy sports enterprises are not games of skill, but flat-out gambling.
