Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ coming to Dr. Phillips this summer

Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ, a popular and well-received chain specializing in Japanese yakiniku dining, will open this summer in Dr. Phillips, according to Yutaro Iwamura, one of the restaurant's owners.

The restaurant will be housed in a new strip mall at 7858 Turkey Lake Road, just north of Sand Lake Road.

If you've gone out for do-it-yourself Korean barbecue, then you're familiar with yakiniku, a Japanese term used to describe Korean-style grilled meat dishes.

Gyu-Kaku ("horn of the bull" in Japanese) will offer a range of meats including harami skirt steak in a miso marinade, certified Angus kalbi short rib in a tare soy marinade, as well as pork, lamb, duck, chicken, shrimp and an assortment of vegetables.

Their smokeless roasters have a downdraft system that should ensure you don't leave the restaurant smelling like the meats you just grilled.

There are about 800 Gyu-Kaku locations in Japan, with more than 30 here in the United States.

This will be the second Gyu-Kaku in Florida, the first having opened in Miami two years ago.
