It's been slightly more than a week since the deadliest mass public shooting in U.S. history and now a Florida senator and congressional candidate has announced he's giving away an assault weapon on his Facebook page.

Greg Evers, a Republican senator running for the 1st Congressional District in Florida's Pandhandle, is giving away an AR-15 as part of his “Homeland Defender Giveaway.”

Evers says you can win this custom-made, high capacity assault rifle, a weapon very similar to the one used to kill 49 and injure 53 at Pulse nightclub, by simply liking and sharing his Facebook post.

For reasons unknown, the post has since been deleted from his page.

“With all that’s happening in the world today, I’ve never felt stronger about the importance of the second amendment in protecting our homeland than I do now,” said Evers in a statement on his website.

As you probably could've guessed, Evers has earned an A-plus from the NRA

Evers was behind the so-called "Pop Tart" bill, which prohibited schools from punishing students for playing with gun-like toys, and was also a sponsor of the "Docs n’ Glocks" bill that limited physicians from inquiring about firearms in the home, a law that is scheduled to be challenged Tuesday, June 21, in the U.S. 11th Circuit Court of Appeals.
