A super PAC supporting a very broke Donald Trump is wasting no time using the nightclub shooting in Orlando to make the case for a Trump presidency.
The new pro-Donald ad, titled "The Enemy," comes from the Great America PAC and features Navy SEAL Carl Higbie, who states that the shooting at Pulse is a reminder that the fight against terrorism has come to U.S. shores.
“Join millions of active duty military members and veterans like me who stand with Donald Trump,” says Higbie.
The ad, which is costing the PAC $700,000, falls in line with Trump's two most popular campaign talking points: ISIS and immigration. The only problem is that these two points have almost nothing to do with the Orlando massacre.
Sure, the Orlando shooter did claim allegiance to ISIS, but he also gave shoutouts to multiple terrorists groups, all of which are at odds with each other. The ad conveniently ignores the fact that the shooter had zero connection to any foreign terrorist group, according to the CIA. Also, it leaves out any mention that he wasn't an immigrant at all, he was an American-born citizen, who passed all background checks, as well as a psychological exam, and purchased his weapons legally.
But none of those facts matter because Trump, like most of the GOP, will say whatever it takes to not discuss assault weapons, which are without a doubt the most prevalent common denominator between the hundreds of mass shooting that happen every year in the U.S.
It's also worth noting that this isn't the first time Trump has attempted to use the Orlando massacre as a stepping stone for his campaign.
Just a couple of hours after the shooting, Trump faced a healthy backlash on Twitter after tweeting that he appreciated “being right” on terrorism.
Appreciate the congrats for being right on radical Islamic terrorism, I don't want congrats, I want toughness & vigilance. We must be smart!
