, the loose Floridian noise collective and distant ancestor of Moon Jelly, and will be making a one-night comeback opening for Moon Jelly, Maximino and Thee Wilt Chamberlain this weekend.
Not only that, but local label Illuminated Paths
will be releasing a cassette retrospective of Auto Chlor material for the night! Fans of Moon Jelly will be in for a surprise by the lo-fi audio sketchbooks that make up these tapes.
We turned Auto Chlor/Moon Jelly member Timothy Murray for some background on the band and these releases: "Auto Chlor was spawned out of fever dreams, vanilla milkshakes and Philip K Dick novels in Athens Ga circa 1995. All of the tracks you hear in the new releases from Illuminated Paths were recorded between 95-01. The primary players were X.X. Periscope, Rex Dangerous and $. Many other unfortunate souls were dragged into this mess with the only instruction being 'you must record in one take.' X.X. Still can't believe that someone would a.) put these tapes out and b.) write about them. Since 2001, X.X. has gone back to using his birth name Timothy Murray and has played in Orlando based bands like Temporally, Death Antiques, Telethon, Zenas Fisk, Idi Bidi Midi Comidi and Moon Jelly."
We also asked IP head Joshua Rogers about releasing these lost tapes. He sent along this statement: "Had seen Tim Murray around the Orlando music scene in his various forms over the years. Always creative and fresh. About a year ago, Tim had heard Illuminated Paths was in the business of raiding artists musical vaults for that which had remained unheard previous, or saw only limited release. Tim provided the only master copies that existed from these early Auto Chlor sessions. On cassette, of course. I went through and cut out silences and false recording spots, attempting to retain the recording in its original form. And dubbed my personal master that is used to create copies, from the original cassette source. There were 7 albums in total salvaged. Which will be released on Illuminated Paths spread out, culminating in a 4-cassette uber set in the end."
