Not everyone is excited about former Fox News anchor Bill O'Reilly's "The Spin Stops Here" tour coming to Florida this September.
A new petition
created by the protest group Care2 demands that the five cities – Anaheim, Las Vegas, Baltimore, Westbury and Tampa – currently set to host O'Reilly cancel his events amid the sexual harassment allegations that were brought to light in an investigation by the New York Times
on April 1.
The investigation revealed that both O'Reilly and 21st Century Fox, the parent company to Fox News, had paid a total of $13 million in settlements to five women in exchange for their silence about sexual harassment allegations against the anchor. Accusations against O'Reilly included lewd behavior, sexual comments, verbal abuse and unwanted sexual advances toward the women.
One of the women, Wendy Walsh, claimed that O'Reilly became hostile with her after he propositioned her at a hotel bar and threatened her career when she wouldn't sleep with him. Another, Andrea Mackris, said that O'Reilly had told her to buy a vibrator and received several phone calls where she could hear what sounded like him masturbating on the phone.
Once the allegations became public, Fox News dumped O'Reilly.
Care2 has already reached over 25,000 out of the 30,000-signature goal of the petition. As of now, tickets are still on sale for O'Reilly's event, which features comedian Dennis Miller, at the Amalie Arena in Tampa on Sept. 23, 2017.
