A new Star Wars "hyper-reality" experience is coming to Disney Springs later this year.
ILMxLAB, the entertainment division of Lucasfilm, teamed up with virtual and mixed-reality design company The VOID to create a "hyper-reality" experience incorporating physical environments with immersive imagery and sound.
According to a press release from Lucasfilm, ILMxLAB and The VOID, the new virtual reality experience will be called "Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire." While wearing headsets, guests will interact with a security drone called K-S20 and attempt to achieve tasks on the volcanic island Mustafar.
Both Walt Disney Studio's Disney Springs in Orlando and Disneyland's Downtown Disney in Anaheim are getting VOID experience centers, but no exact locations have been confirmed.
While an opening date of the virtual reality experience remains to be seen, fans of the franchise have a lot to look forward to in the coming months and years with Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, the new land which is set to open in both Disney locations in 2019.
