House music can sometimes get a bad rap, due mainly to the confusion over genres in the electronic dance music pantheon. House – the original underground dance genre – grew out of underground disco parties in Chicago in the late ’70s and early ’80s, and retains a lot of the hallmarks of disco. DJs Andre Mack, MarsRadio, Mr. Mogembo and Todd Love descend on the Henao Center this weekend to deliver a history lesson to the masses that takes the dancefloor on a sonic journey through places like Chicago, Detroit and Philly to re-create a classic house party vibe. Oh, and it’s free.

9 p.m. Saturday; Henao Contemporary Center, 5601 Edgewater Drive; free; henaocenter.com
