There will be no sonic half-measures for local arts raconteur Pat Greene on the occasion of his 60th birthday. The man’s going into his seventh decade with conceptual guns a-blazing, and aside from an impressive program of artists’ talks and readings, the music lineup for this daylong celebration and benefit for Downtown Arts District immediately caught our eye. The three projects playing encompass the mix of the, ahem, sacred and profane that Greene has showcased regularly in his Avalon programs. To wit, local sonic reducers Obliterati will reconvene, sandwiched between the total physical and sonic trash anarchy that is Miami’s Rat Bastard and his ad-hoc Laundry Room Squelchers, and very much on the other hand a Glenn Branca-esque 60-guitar orchestra (will all of those guitarists even fit into the Avalon space?) will perform a piece written just for the night by Chris Belt. As heady as it is risky, as always.
