Vinyl Arts Bar’s dedication to its namesake material is evident in this weekend's Art of Mixing, hosted by Girlsliketechno. DJs Carlos Mendoza, Mr. Crowley and Mad House show off their skills on the wheels of steel, mixing house and techno the old-fashioned way: on wax, with actual turntables. And while there's nothing inherently wrong with a laptop DJ, it's good to see people keeping the old-school approach alive.

10 p.m. Friday; Vinyl Arts Bar, 75 E. Colonial Drive; $5;
