More than 1,000 anti-abortion activists are due in Orlando this week -- 10 times the number of Operation Rescue protesters who drew media and police attention with their recent antics outside abortion clinics and inside Gay Day at Disney.
Organizers of the National Right to Life Committee's 26th annual conference didn't rule out "sidewalk counseling" by individuals in front of local clinics. Still, the group's presence hasn't triggered police to prepare for the brand of lawbreaking -- if not violent confrontation -- associated with Texas-based Operation Rescue.
Unlike Operation Rescue (whose protests resulted in eight arrests), the Right to Life group relies on educational campaigns and lobbying legislators. A spokeswoman says the group has a strict policy prohibiting any illegal activity.
