A new Japanese restaurant at Epcot, Guesthouse sister bar opening soon, plus more in local foodie news



OPENINGS: Look for Grounding Roots to open their second juice bar inside the Grove at Winter Park plaza on Aloma Avenue and Howell Branch Road June 9 ... Disney announced that the space-themed restaurant they have planned for Epcot will open by the end of the year. The menu will feature "internationally inspired cuisine" and "more than 1,000 bottles of the world's finest wines." Countdown's on ... Also at Epcot, look for upscale, full-service restaurant Takumi-Tei to open in the Japan Pavilion this summer ... Bar openings to report: The Sunroom will open next door to its sister bar the Guesthouse any day now, and Wally's Mills Avenue Liquors will have its grand reopening in mid-June ... Steak It Easy, the food truck parked at A La Cart, will open a brick-and-mortar location called Steak Orlando inside Oviedo's Food Factory food hall early next year ... After some hiccups, Todo Sushi has finally opened in the Ravaudage complex at the corner of 17-92 and Lee Road in Winter Park.

CLOSINGS: Tre Bambine, Orlando's first bàcaro, has closed just two months after opening in the old Spice Modern Steakhouse space on East Central. We hardly knew ya.

NEWS: Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams will roll into town for another summer truck tour with free ice cream. Stops are planned for the Rifle Paper Co. Shop at 588 W. New England Ave. in Winter Park May 24 and 25 from noon to 5 p.m. and the Publix at the Market at Southside May 25 from 3-5 p.m.

EVENTS: Morimoto Asia concludes its Whiskey Week festivities with a Buffalo Trace Omakase – a five-course "tasting event" featuring rare whiskey and passed pan-Asian bites inside the restaurant's Forbidden Lounge. Event goes from 5-7 p.m. Friday, May 31. Tickets are $50 ... Kendra Lott of Edible Orlando celebrates the launch of her book Unique Eats & Eateries with a dinner event June 5 at the Tennessee Truffle in Sanford. The $70 ticket gets you a four-course meal with wine pairings, as well as a signed copy of the book ... Bite Night, the grand food and drink event celebrating Orlando Weekly's BITE magazine and Bite30, takes place June 20 inside the equally grand Orchid Garden & Ballroom. Tickets are $45, or $65 VIP.
