Skyplex versus Universal Orlando
When the Wallack family, developers of I-Drive's Mango's Café, announced plans to build the world's tallest roller coaster across the corner, it was bound to ruffle some powerful feathers. But even industry observers were initially surprised how vigorously Universal Orlando opposed the project. The other shoe dropped on the eve of the approval vote, as word leaked that Universal had purchased 474 acres within sight of the proposed 500-plus-foot-tall tower. Universal lost the battle, but attraction fans will be the ultimate winners if both companies' plans come to fruition.
