Dexterâ??s hosts a vintage tour

Around the world in 80 wines: That's the itinerary for the fourth annual Dexter's Wine Tasting and Silent Auction 6 p.m.-9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11, at Harry P. Leu Gardens (1920 N. Forest Ave.).

After the gardens close, the plantation-style Garden House will swing with hundreds of wine lovers, live jazz, tidbits from Dexter's chefs and 80 international labels poured by winery representatives. "Last year we sold out about a week in advance and had to turn away quite a few people," says John Hoffmeister, one of the organizers. "This year we're going to have the whole spectrum of wine; a variety of cabs and zins, pinot noirs, sauvignons, merlots and Rieslings." Not to mention champagne and desserts, as well as a silent auction for rare bromeliads and orchids. The $40 tickets are available at the Leu Gardens gift shop, or charge them to a credit card by calling (407) 246-2620.
