Eola General opens, Foxtail joins forces with Pizza Bruno and more in Orlando foodie news



OPENINGS: Eola General, a neighborhood venture by Sean Kelley (Henry's Depot), Shaun Noonan (Dixie Dharma) and Joe Roberti (Grain & Ember), has opened in the former Handy Pantry building on Amelia Street. The general store serves a mix of sandwiches, vegan fare, pastries, raw milk products, cheese, wine and more ... Foxtail Coffee will join forces with Pizza Bruno to bring a new coffee-and-bagel concept to the old Hubbly Bubbly space in College Park. Bagel Bruno will offer Montreal-style bagels out of the Foxtail Coffee location when it opens this spring. Meanwhile, Slice by Pizza Bruno is slated to open this May on Mills Avenue ... Look for a second LemonShark Poke to open in early fall, this one at the Florida Mall ... SoDo just got a Lucky's Market; now they're getting an Earth Fare on the corner of Orange Avenue and Gore Street in the Novel Lucerne complex. It opens March 20 ... The owners of the Cups and Pups craft coffee cart want to open Cups and Pups Coffee + Dog Park on a property in Lockhart off North Orange Blossom Trail, and they've started an Indiegogo campaign. NEWS: Tim Keating is no longer at Urbain 40. Keating has four James Beard Foundation Award noms from his days at the Four Seasons Hotel in Houston ... Speaking of, finalists for the 2019 James Beard Foundation Awards will be announced March 27. Here's hoping Norman's (Outstanding Restaurant), James & Julie Petrakis (Outstanding Restaurateur), Rabii Saber (Outstanding Pastry Chef) and Victoria & Albert's (Outstanding Service) move forward.

EVENTS: In celebration of Rabii Saber's JBF Award nomination for Outstanding Pastry Chef, a three-course dinner with wine pairings will be held at Capa Steakhouse Thursday, March 14, at 6:30 p.m. (Honey nougat glâcé will be served for dessert.) Cost is $75 ... East End Market's Evening Exchange brings together a who's who of the Orlando food scene Friday, March 15, from 6-10 p.m. The event will feature interactive workshops, trendsetting makers, culinary demos, specialty cocktails and food specials ... The Ravenous Pig hosts a wine dinner featuring the legendary Peter Michael Winery Saturday, March 16. Chefs de cuisine Nick Sierputowski and Camilo Velasco will fashion the four-course menu. Cost is $240.
