Frank & Steins opens in Winter Park, two-minute Pizza@Artegon, and five new restaurants

I’m sure you were wondering when this day was going to come – Mingos has closed. Yes, 100 S. Eola Drive has claimed quite a few victims in the past six-odd years: RIP Graze (2008-2009), Prickly Pear (2011-2013), Lotus (2013-2013) and Mingos (2013-2014). Mingos at the DoubleTree Hotel near UCF will stay open, but will change its name.

We first reported back in June that Frank & Steins would open in the former Shipyard Brewing space on Fairbanks Avenue. Well, that’s exactly what’s happened. More than 50 drafts are flowing at the pub-eatery, and in addition to beer and full liquor, they’ve got franks, deli sandwiches, salads, wings and pizza.

Speaking of, Pizza@, a new “customizable” pizza concept, has opened at the Artegon Marketplace. Guests customize their pizza by first choosing traditional, whole wheat or gluten-free dough; their sauce and cheese of choice; then any of 30 toppings, including mahi-mahi, prosciutto and pulled pork. Pizzas are baked in two minutes.

The Orlando Holiday Brew Fest goes 6-10 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, at downtown’s Heritage Square. Tickets are $35 day of event, $30 in advance. The Hyatt Regency’s December Food & Wine Experience (7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12; $65 per person) features a four-course meal paired with Frog’s Leap wines.

Segafredo Zanetti Espresso Café in Mills Park is aiming for a mid-December opening … Yet another Mellow Mushroom is set to open on I-Drive near Aquatica before the new year … Look for Turkish Bar & Grill to open in the former Wassabi Asian Fusion space in Altamonte Springs … The initial fall 2014 opening date of Baldwin Park’s Osprey Tavern has been pushed back to early next year … Qarma Crepes in Thornton Park has closed and will move to a spot on the corner of Alafaya Trail and Corporate Boulevard, across from UCF … The beers of cicerone Ron Raike (formerly of Shipyard and Cask & Larder) are now being poured at the Playalinda Brewing Company. Might be time for a trip to Titusville.
