Gwar, Corrosion of Conformity, American Sharks, American Party Machine

When: Fri., Dec. 5, 7 p.m. 2014

Thrash metal band Gwar shocks fans with fake blood and incredible cos- tumes. That’s standard fare for the cult following the comedic rockers have amassed over the past 30 years. But all that flash couldn’t prepare fans for the stun of the band’s recent unveiling of their new frontwoman, Vulvatron, who, along- side co-vocalist Blothar, attempts to fill the horned shoes of original frontman Oderus Urungus after Dave Brockie (Oderus) died of a heroin overdose in March. Vulvatron looks like she was based on Ivy from SoulCalibur, and you almost expect her to wield a snake sword onstage. She doesn’t, but she does spray blood from her nipples and club the other Scumdogs of Gwar while the band performs an array of heavy hits off excellent early records like Scumdogs of the Universe, explo- sive mid-career offerings like Carnival of Chaos and new stuff from last year’s Battle Maximus.
