Spring is the season when theaters spring their upcoming schedules on subscribers, and several of Orlando's biggest companies have released their 2019-2020 lineups in recent weeks.
In November, Escape to Margaritaville: The Jimmy Buffett Musical will kick off the first full Fairwinds Broadway in Orlando season since Hamilton's sold-out run at the Dr. Phillips Center. The madcap non-musical The Play That Goes Wrong will close out 2019, then the stage adaptation of Disney's Aladdin rings in 2020, followed by the musicalization of Tina Fey's teen comedy Mean Girls in February. Miss Saigon's iconic helicopter lands in March, a musical version of Chazz Palminteri's movie A Bronx Tale parks in April, and Lerner and Loewe's classic My Fair Lady closes out the season next May. Season subscribers can also opt to see Les Miserables return in October; visit orlando.broadway.com for renewal and ticket information.
Orlando Shakes, which previously announced next year's Henry IV, Part 1 & 2 as part of the "Fire and Reign" campaign, has now released all the titles in their 2019-2020 season, starting with Andrew Lloyd Webber's Evita in September. Shakespeare's Scottish play (aka Macbeth) arrives in October, a sequel to Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice called Miss Bennet: Christmas at Pemberley will premiere in December, and Mark St. Germain's sex-therapist bioplay Becoming Dr. Ruth is coming next January. Catherine Bush's adaptation of Dumas' Three Musketeers and My Lord, What a Night – about singer Marian Anderson's friendship with Albert Einstein – complete the mainstage series in February and March.
Orlando Ballet's recently announced 2019-2020 season will mark the return of the artistic director to the stage as a performer in critically acclaimed choreographer Jessica Lang's "The Calling," which will be part of next March's Made in the USA: A Collection of American Works program. Before then, Vampire's Ball will be back for Halloween, as will The Nutcracker at Christmas, while 2020 brings a pair of Disney-adjacent productions: Prokofiev's Cinderella in February and Mowgli: The Jungle Book in May; subscriptions go on sale next month.
