The one-eyed visions of psychedelic artist Keith "Scramble" Campbell have always fit the mold of the annual MagnoliaFest (www.magmusic.com/magnolia.htm) held in the swamplands of the Spirit of the Suwanee Music Park in Live Oak. For this year's music/camping jamboree, Thursday-Sunday, Oct. 21-24, Campbell and crew are creating the Cosmic Folk Art Show, a village within a village. Here's a chance to view what most of us didn't get to see at Scramble's wedding last April or at the Bonnaroo festival in June in Tennessee – environment-transforming installations created by his crew of fellow artists: Carl Knickerbocker, Regina Smith, Tony Garan and Morgan Steele. The following weekend, the spirit moves back to Winter Park for the opening of Scramble's Vision Gallery. The artist is taking over the back space of Static boutique. He'll maintain a presence there, changing out his pieces with work by Knickerbocker, Smith, Garan and Steele. Scramble himself will head to Colorado shortly thereafter to continue his work, particularly with Red Rocks Amphitheater. Those familiar with Scramble's work of 10 years ago need to poke around www.scramblecampbell.com to see how his work has changed. "Before they used to be more from an inner perspective," he says. WORDS OF CHOICE If you're just hearing about it, it's probably too late to attend the one-night-only Words of Choice play at the Mad Cow Theatre. Tickets are already scarce for the pro-choice event, hosted by Planned Parenthood of Greater Orlando. Auspiciously, the traveling New York troupe makes its final stop here on Sunday, after touring since early this year. This season finale for the play that's turned into an organization (wordsofchoice.home.mindspring.com) will feature a post-performance discussion with playwright Cindy Cooper. And PPGO's famous president, Sally Blackmun, will be signing copies of The War on Choice, written by Gloria Feldt but with a moving introduction by Blackmun, daughter of the late Supreme Court justice Harry Blackmun. Producer Karen Oughtred says the impact is moving and educational, but not so provocative as to make those who are far from pro-choice uncomfortable. "I really think it opens their minds," she explains, and that's the target audience – people who want to feel further informed and not beaten down. WOMEN PLAYWRIGHTS
If you're a woman and live in the Southeast, it's not too late to submit full-length original plays to the Orlando-based Women Playwrights' Initiative. Organizer Lyndol Michael has set a Dec. 1 deadline for writers to pull it together with hopes that their play will be the lucky one selected for a production in the spring of 2005.
