A planning and review board has set a timetable for Parramore's revitalization: By March 31, the volunteer panel, which Mayor Hood convened in August to help plan a redevelopment effort in the blighted area, says it will have reviewed all of the neighborhood's crime-control programs. The crime profile will be the first step in turning around the neighborhood. The three other main objectives: bringing an elementary school to the area, job and business creation, and home ownership.
In April the group hopes to obtain tentative approval from the Orange County School Board to create a magnet school in the nearly all-black neighborhood. The home-ownership program will include both private and publicly backed financing, and will be in place by June 30; the economic-development initiative will start by Sept. 30.
