Animal-rights activists upset at Sea World's treatment of dolphins and whales blame an Orlando Sentinel photographer for their arrest Sunday outside the theme-park. The activists, many fresh from an animal-rights conference at the University of Central Florida, had wrapped up their protest for the TV cameras and were walking back to their cars when they met the late-arriving photojournalist.
Whether group members jumped at the chance for more publicity or resumed their protest at the photographer's pleading is up for interpretation. But there is no arguing the fact that the second show caused 37 protesters to be arrested and charged with unlawful assembly by a phalanx of sheriff's deputies.
"It was a scary situation," said protester Don Lutz, from Alachua County. "We wouldn't have gone back there. `The photographer is` the reason 37 people were arrested." Adding insult to injury, the photo didn't appear in the next day's paper.
