Rick Bayless’ Frontera Cocina is open at Disney Springs, three local ways to celebrate Bastille Day, plus more in local foodie news



In celebration of Bastille Day on July 14, a Taste of Jazz allows you to listen to some jazz heavies, then enjoy bourbon, whiskey and light bites for $29 at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. Also on Bastille Day, La Madeleine Country French Café (at the Millenia and Florida malls) treats guests to a free mini "Liberté Tart." And Audubon Park Garden District presents a four-day Bastille Day Celebration Extravaganza July 14-17, including the fifth year of their Wine and Cheese Pairing with La Femme du Fromage and a Bastille Day Bubbles Sip & Stroll. Vive la révolution delicieux!


The new restaurant by the founders of Kappo will comprise two separate concepts (both Japanese) and will open in Audubon Park later this year ... Frontera Cocina, by kitchen warrior Rick Bayless, has opened in Disney Springs ... Look for a Brass Tap to open between the Regal Cinemas and LA Fitness in the Waterford Lakes Town Center this fall ... Leonard Kodra, owner of Fratelli's Italian Restaurant on North Orange Avenue near the Bank of America building, will open Bella Italia Ristorante in Winter Garden later this month ... Nature's Table has opened on the ground floor of the Regions Bank building on North Orange Avenue downtown ... Former 'N Sync member Joey Fatone will open a hot dog stand called The Fat One this August in the Florida Mall ... Look for another Marlow's Tavern to open near the airport in the Lee Vista Promenade in the coming weeks ... Also near the airport, Haven Lounge will open on Semoran Boulevard near Lee Vista Drive. (And no, it's not another location of the metal club in Winter Park with the same name.) 


Canadian froyo chain Yogen Früz has closed its shops in College Park, Winter Park and Baldwin Park.


We first told you about Le Dîner en Blanc, the pop-up outdoor dinner party, back in May. We now know the event will happen in October. The exact date will be announced at a special press event in the coming weeks ... Osprey Tavern now serves a BBQ Brunch every Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. ... Dining in the Dark goes from 6-9:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 27, at the Second Harvest Food Bank. Chef Jill Holland will prepare the meal, which guests will enjoy in total darkness. Tickets are $125.
