Sip the Nectars of the gods

by

The blender was invented by a Mr. Fred Osius in 1936, who probably had no idea how popular fruit and a handful of ice would be.

One of the best blenders humming away today is at Nectars in Altamonte Springs (931 State Road 434; 407-865-6788). Aside from wraps, rice bowls and great "San Francisco Nectar burgers" -- home-made veggie burgers with cheese, avocado and sprouts (drool) -- they prepare a dizzying array of fresh fruit and juice concoctions that have so much concentrated flavor, your head snaps back from the intensity. They even have wheatgrass shooters. Sue me, I like wheatgrass.

While people are making smoothies with baked sweet potato and peanuts (I'm not kidding), Nectars just plays with taste combinations, like raspberry juice and orange sherbet, or coffee, yogurt and Ghirardelli chocolate. Add a multivitamin blend-in, and it's healthy, too!
