Soco rolls out brunch; Redlight Redlight hosts U.K. celebrity dinner

Plus tons of foodie events and a list of new Disney restaurants



Way back in March of 2013, we first reported that Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto would open a restaurant in Disney Springs. We now know that Morimoto Asia, a pan-Asian resto, will open next summer in the Disney Springs Landing (fka Pleasure Island). In addition to Orlando getting yet another absentee chef (yay!), I’m sure we’ll get an interesting dim sum.

Redlight Redlight Beer Parlour will host chef Andy Bates (Food Network U.K.) along with Sushi & Seoul on the Roll’s Al Ruiz at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, for a ticketed dinner of “classic English fare.” The event, in celebration of Sushi & Seoul’s appearance on the Cooking Channel food-truck show Eat Street, will also feature traditional English ales brewed by Redlight Redlight’s Brent Hernandez. Tickets are $20.

We finally have an opening date for Rajesh Bhardwaj’s American Gymkhana, the “modern Indian” resto taking over the Dr. Phillips space vacated last year by Dominic Sarkar’s Raga. Diners and drinkers can enjoy the work of chef Aarthi Sampath and mixologist Hemant Pathak as of Saturday, Nov. 8.

Hot tip: Greg Richie’s Soco in Thornton Park just rolled out brunch. Stop in for johnnycakes, deviled duck eggs and Southern-fried quail with pecan waffles.

On Nov. 20, the annual Feast of Fonzo takes place at 6:30 p.m. at K Restaurant in College Park. The family-style affair includes antipasti, bowls of pasta, Sunday gravy with braciole, meatballs, sausage, clams, mussels, calamari, lamb, tiramisu, cheesecake and house-made limoncello. The wine, from Noble Wine Estates, will be flowing.


More restaurants expected at Disney Springs include the Edison, STK, the Hangar and the Boathouse. Rumors abound about other potential DS restaurant openings (more absentee celeb chefs?); stay tuned … Look for an outpost of Tin Roof, the famous Nashville bar-restaurant, to open early next year at I-Drive 360 … If you’re a lover of Café de Paris’ coffee, you can now purchase their signature blend on their newly launched web store at
