Essay question: Why should I drink here?
Dapper Duck tries a lot harder than it has to. Opened about six weeks ago by the owner of the Downtown Pourhouse and staffed by experienced bartenders you’ll recognize from other downtown haunts, it’s got a built-in clientele. But rather than simply leaning on the regulars and the ideal Orange Avenue location, the Duck offers decor a bit nicer than it needs to be (Edison bulbs, etc.), a stellar food menu, way more wine choices than you might expect in a relatively casual downtown bar and grown-up staff mixing well-built cocktails. The bar would probably be just as busy without all these things – and it is almost always busy – but it’s nice to know they’re putting the good work out there anyway.
