The imposing hulk of a restaurant in the Copper Rocket's parking lot has held onto owners about as well as the Hope Diamond, shrugging off hamburger peddlers and sandwich vendors like bad dreams. But the one-man act running Topos Hot Dogz-n-Pastrami might keep his spot, thanks to wiseacre charm and uncomplicated specialties.
A hot dog ($2.60) is just that, overflowing its plain white bun, but the plethora of free toppings (including chili and pastrami) help it earn the price tag. The pastrami sandwich's ($7.25) meat is sliced thick and topped how you like, as Topo makes every sandwich to order (ask for extra kraut). But meat is meat ' the best reason to go is the ridiculously munchable seasoned fries ($2.50) and sweet potato fries ($3), which you could top with complimentary ketchup, cheese or chili, but then you'd be messing with double-fried crispy perfection. Cash only.
