★★★★ (out of 5 stars)
Riff god Josh Homme has heaped wildly hyperbolic praise on these guys, so maybe he won’t mind reading that sometimes these Swedes out-Stone the desert king himself. Press play on this bad boy and you’ll see why at the 57-second mark when the guitars kick on “The Chairman.” And there are tons more thick-ribbed, fuzz-revved beefy cuts where that came from, like the minimal muscle of “Prophet,” the motoring thump of “Mind Control” and the voyaging rager “Mastodont” (a playful nod to their Atlanta buds). This is stoner rock that’s brisk and moving, but paced just right so you can feel the full groan and tonnage of each mammoth chop. There are some moments of prog and psych space, but Truckfighters’ beast riffs are where they rule. And you won’t give a shit about anything else when you hear them drop.
