Valkyrie Doughnuts to open near UCF, Wahlburgers adds a new location, plus more in local foodie news



Late-night dining at Morimoto Asia is getting a revamp. The restaurant's Forbidden Lounge will serve a new menu in the coming weeks for night owls at Disney Springs.

Winter Springs' DeVine Wine & Grill hosts a farmers market outside the restaurant on June 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The three farms participating are Sundew Gardens, ecoUrban Farms and Maya Papaya Organic Community Farm.

Former proprietors Paul and Jennie Lynn Skingley of the much-missed Best of British Pub have started the pop-up Viceroy Chipshops Curry Club specializing in, yes, curry. The group gathers regularly in three venues around town: El Patron in Lake Buena Vista, St. Andrew's Tavern in Altamonte Springs and the Harp & Celt downtown. Check them out on Facebook.

Many chefs have spoken out in the wake of the attack on Pulse Nightclub, but a recent conversation with Norman Van Aken yielded these poignant, and resonating, words: "Politicians who refuse to act in the positive affirmation of humanity need to be voted out of office. All they'll lose is their jobs. The lives lost last week (and before, and before, and before) are forever, and the families with broken hearts will bear the pain for all of their days. There is no Founding Father that wanted such an America."  


Valkyrie Doughnuts, the doughnut-only offshoot of Valhalla Bakery, will open in the former Qarma Crepes location near UCF. Owner Celine Duvoisin hopes to open "within three months." And yes, Valhalla Bakery will continue to operate out of Market on South ... Orlando Meats update: According to owner Edgar Massoni, the café portion of the specialty meat shop is a go. Massoni is currently looking for a chef, but expects to open by the end of summer ... Wahlburgers will open their second area burger joint in the Waterford Lakes Town Center in the old Amigos space by year's end ... Sambumbia Puerto Rican Cuisine has opened in Lake Kathryn Plaza in Casselberry ... Steak on Fire, the Dr. Phillips eatery serving "Brazilian steaks on bread," will open next month in the Fountains plaza ... Little Greek Fresh Grill will open its Celebration outpost next month as well ... Lucky's Market, "the love child of Whole Foods and Trader Joe's," has opened on East Colonial Drive.
