We told you so

As Orlando Weekly went to press last week, former City Clerk Grace Chewning did indeed return our phone call to state the obvious: that after 47 years of service to the city, Mayor Glenda Hood had given Chewning the boot.

"They said they wanted a new direction for the city clerk's office and I wasn't part of that," Chewning said. "I was thinking of retiring anyway. But I thought I'd be the one to ask."

That explains why the former clerk omitted Hood from a list of "outstanding mayors" Chewning named in a Sentinel guest column last month.
